Saturday 27th June

Salford Quays and The River Irwell

Short cruise back to Pomona lock ready for our 9am booking. Three men turned up slightly late but none of the Worseley cruising club had turned up yet, so we were on our own for the moment. At the end of no. 3 lock we turned upstream to see how far we could get. The lockies had not been encouraging, but we managed to get to the limit of navigation at Hunts Bank near Victoria station and winded with no problems. On the way downstream however we scraped over a shallow on the inside of the bend near Trafford Bridge, which was to catch one of the boat club boats later on.

Stopped briefly to pickup Andy on the waterbus mooring and continued round to lock where we moored for coffee. After that we went back upstream going close to the Lowry footbridge. Locked back up onto the Bridgewater canal at 1230 and went back to Castlefields.

Went for lunch at the Knott again, after which Ian left us to go home. Later on I went to collect Justin from the coach station. Then we went to eat in Livebait.
